Accident at Iyyappan Temple Junction – Chengalpattu on 01-07-2018
The Ayyappan temple is located at the south-east corner of the Junction where the NH-32 Highway and the State highway SH 58 The Ayyappan temple is located at the south-east corner of the Junction where the NH-32 Highway and the State highway SH 58 meets at Chengalpattu.

The junction is provided with an elevated flyover on the NH-32 to give a free traffic flow to the vehicles on the NH-32 which are not required to enter Chengalpattu or to move to Kanchipuram. The Elevated corridor stands by itself solving the junction traffic problems. But still, a deadly accident has occurred on 01-07-2018 at 12.30 p.m. in the afternoon at the vicinity of the junction.
Modus Operandi :
How did the accident occur?
The bus belonged to P.S.B. Polytechnic. The driver was trying to overtake a government bus. While they approached the flyover, the level of intensity of the competition increased. The driver has carelessly applied the brake while negotiating the downward gradient of the flyover. This has caused the bus to hit the side walls of the flyover at its landing portion. The driver lost control and allowed the bus to move the left side and hit the crash barrier of the embankment. The bus hit the crash barrier and opened it up and fell down through the embankment and landed itself below the embankment.
In this process, the bus also hit a person who was riding a bike on the road. The person got dead on the spot.
Four people got dead and 10 people were injured as a result of this accident.
